A Brief Introduction
Shanghai Pudong Foreign Languages School (SPFLS), an affiliation of Shanghai International Studies University (SISU)，is located in the scientific research and education section of Zhangjiang High-tech Park. It is a landmark school of Pudong New Area. Mr Zhu Jiangguo, vice president of SISU, is the headmaster and CPC branch secretary of SPFLS.
Established in the autumn of 1996, the school has been bestowed upon with a donation from Mr Li Ka-shing, the renowned entrepreneur in Hong Kong, and a land provided by Zhangjiang Hi-tech Park Development Corporation (ZHPDC). Administered by Pudong New Area Government and run by SISU, it has become a modern boarding school with distinctive characteristics of foreign languages teaching. A school board is in place, made up of Bureau of Social Development of Pudong New Area, SISU and ZHPDC. Mr Dai Haibo, is the chairman of the school board, the vice chairmen being Mr Zhu Jianguo and Mr Zhao Kaiguo. Featuring the joint cooperation of the government, an institution of higher learning and an enterprise, SPFLS is noted for its dynamism and vitality.
Covering and area of 6.6700 square kilometers, the school has a junior section and a senior section of 42 classes, all of which are equipped with multi-media facilities. There are 4 computer rooms, 6 language labs, electronic reading rooms, an observatory and a lecture hall. Also found are a library, a teaching preparation center, a gymnasium and a standard playground as well as 3 high-standard students' apartment buildings. The international division is now being planned, with a land donated by ZHPDC.
To push forward the quality education in an all-round way, the school is blazing a new trail of strengthening English teaching, experimenting with bilingual education and exploring multilingual education. Prominent emphasis is given to practicing students in listening and speaking and training their communicative abilities. Meanwhile, the school is actively engaged in the exploration and practice in the second-phase curriculum reformation to open new courses aimed at achieving students' overall development. It is creating elegant, civilized campus culture for the students to grow physically and mentally in a healthy, harmonious, pleasant and enterprising atmosphere.
