Unit Four Science in English

Lesson 1 Weather

 

Teaching objectives:

1. talk about the weather

2. use have been/have gone

 

Teaching aids:

1. multimedia: a computer & a projector

2. a tape recorder

3. a tape of the text

 

Language focus and difficult points:

1.      all the time

2.      hot like a sauna

3.      go…for sightseeing

4.      blow

5.      degrees centigrade/Celsius

6.      Fahrenheit

 

Teaching procedures:

I. Warming-up

  A.  saying

      It’s raining cats and dogs. (rain heavily)

      It’s pouring.

It’s spitting. (drizzle)

  B.  revision

 1. ask for the weather: What’s the weather like today?/How’s the weather today?

 2. ask for the temperature: What’s the temperature?

        eight degrees centigrade/Celsius

        thirty-three Fahrenheit

        minus fifteen degrees centigrade/Celsius

        fifteen degrees centigrade/Celsius below zero

      between fifteen degrees centigrade/Celsius

 3. ask for the expressions of weather (brain storm)

   students tell the different expressions, teacher type on the screen

     sunny, cloudy, windy, rainy, snowy, foggy, clear, stormy,

     drizzle, sandstorm, thunderstorm, shower

II. Developing skills

  A. the weather (Family Album U.S.A)

1. students watch the video of the weather (Family Album U.S.A)

   2. listening comprehension check shown
