2017 foreign languages cultural festival
Leaders, fellow teachers and dear students,
Good morning
I’m honored to make a speech on behalf of all the foreign languages teachers in our school at this opening ceremony of 2017 foreign languages cultural festival
The theme of this year’s cultural festival is “Canada and Latin America”. Canada, though is the second largest country in the world, it is always overshadowed by its powerful neighbor in many ways. But for me it always has a place in my heart not only because my son studied and is working there but also because it has my favorite singer Celine Dion, the 2013 Nobel prize winner for literature Alice Munro, and its breathtakingly beautiful maple trees in autumn and its varieties of exciting winter sports that you can’t experience anywhere else. As for Latin America, I have to admit I really know a little about the 34 countries and regions there except for Panama Canal, which I learned in my geography class in middle school, the football in Argentina, Samba in Brazil. But I truly know there in South America lies a mysterious land rich in all kinds of resources of culture, literature, humanity, history, sports and art and they are waiting for you and me to explore together.
In order to immerse you in these rich resources, teachers of our department have been working hard for the last few weeks to plan and program a lot of activities ranging from wall papers, story-telling, classic reading and dubbing in junior grade to drama, Ted talk in senior grade. I’m sure the 2017 foreign language cultural festival will be another unforgettable experience of you.
After two weeks, on December the 21st you will enjoy our highly prestigious Christmas dinner which is the envy of other school students and also you’ll have your Christmas party, joining in the birthday celebration of one man called Jesus Christ all over world regardless of colors, races and nationalities. Actually December 25th isn’t his real birthday History doesn’t tell us when exactly he was born but does tell us he was born over 500 later than Confucius and came to this world with love. In his 33 years of lifetime he gained his popularity by healing the sick, loving the poor, befriending the despised and challenging the authority of the Jewish religious leaders, therefore arousing the furious jealousy of the upper class and sadly leading to his death, crucified on the cross by the Roman rulers at that time. After his death his sacrificing love inspired his followers to spread his love across the world and now 33% of the population of the world claim to be his followers, which is really amazing.
So love is the true meaning of Christmas, not the commercialized atmosphere, nor the rituals “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth, It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres” These verses of the scripture best and full interpretation of love and the very life the man Jesus lived out. With love, there will no more conflict, no more hatred no more darkness in people’s heart and no more child abuse in the nurseries and kindergarten
Teachers and students, we are so blessed to work and study in a school with an international vision, outlook and an open arm to embrace the world. Wish all of you have fun. My due thanks , respect and honor to those who will take an active in all kinds of activities in the festival and to everybody , fellow teachers, staffs and student volunteers who have been working hard is still working to make the success of this festival possible.
Thank you for listening!
